Hi, I’ve been thinking…
About what you might want to read and why you would bother.
Because don’t we all want to know why things are worth our time?
So I was thinking about what I could write. (I mean, if it was up to me it would all be flowery descriptions of how pretty the world is and half-baked meanderings about metaphysics and existential purpose, but that’s beside the point).
And so I figured my posts can be categorised under three headings: Informative, Inspirational and Instructive.
Informative posts will hopefully shine a light on something you’ll find interesting from the world of running and running-adjacent. They might be stories about people or places. It could be information about races or events. Or it could be things you might want to watch, read or listen to. Even just ideas and theories for you to think about.
Inspirational posts are where I’ll sometimes get a little loose, a little bit fruity. They might deal with some of the same things as Informative posts, but prior warning: there may be some flouncing around with language and tears of gratitude for how achingly fucking beautiful it all is…
(It’ll be a bit like that bit in American Beauty when the plastic bag blows round in the wind).
Instructive posts will aim to give you actionable (boak) tips you can take to your own running life. Bearing in mind I’m not a coach or an expert, these are likely to be pretty accessible and not as serious / demanding as the language suggests. It’ll be stuff anyone can try, like things about shoes, or where / when’s good to run.
I’ve got a post in the pipeline about flow triggers, I’ll likely label that as Instructive.
There’ll be some crossover with these labels, no doubt.
(The fact they all begin with the letter “I” is pure coincidence. They were the first things I thought of and then I couldn’t shift them! I acknowledge and accept the cheesiness).
Substack doesn’t allow you to tag posts (to my knowledge) so from now on you’ll see a button with each post, labelled with one or more of these words.
It’ll be a guide for you in terms of what to expect from the post, and why you might read it. Maybe over time you’ll recognise that you enjoy a certain style of post, and that’ll be a useful guide for both of us.
Clicking the buttons will share the post to the place of your choice.
I haven’t quite decided where I’ll put them yet, but they’ll look like this:
Oh, and I’ve got a new logo because that old pic of me staring wistfully into the night with my back against a wall on Sauchiehall St seemed like a world away from where I’m currently at.
Some of you might recognise the logo. It was too good to waste.
See you Friday for something both Inspirational and Informative…
(Hopefully).
Thanks for reading,
Jamie
